no sound/9.04 AMD-64Jaunty once OSS4 installed

Postby ken78724 » Fri Sep 18, 2009 4:35 am

What must I do? I've toggled best I know how. If it makes a difference, I attempted to go to OSS4 almost immediately before going from the standard Jaunty 9.04 to Ubuntu Studio; I believe I fully removed ALSA but being a noobie essentially, I am not sure the full take over occurred in Ubuntu Studio [I describe this ubuntu studio install step by step under ken78724 on Ubuntu Forum 64AMD].

Here are results of OSS4 tests I have run:
k78724@Kproductions:~$ ossmix

Hi Ken !

Perhaps, you should wait a bit.
The gurus seem to be busy.

In a word, we made some troubleshooting of OSS4 problems on Mint forum.
Perhaps, you may find some useful info in these threads:

Yes Cesium, the OOSt test perches loudly on 3 tests and makes a static like response on the 4th test

If you want sound, you want the mute to be off, so that value is correct.

Hi Temüjin!

Many thanks!

I am really puzzled by this.
Is it the same for mic?

record.mix.mute.fp-mic1 ON|OFF (currently ON)

For example, on Mint forum, a happy user reported this:
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 3&start=15

Got my mic working in the back mic jack, here's my new ossmix results

This command:

dmesg | grep oss

may show if there are any errors on the device.

and this command too:

dmesg | grep HDA

gave up trying while inundated with work. tonight when I did OSS4 tests, no sound. but forgot how to make a report. unplugging from back to front of PC no difference except a faint sound during the test; not chirpy as it was before.

lost what once worked.

How did you install OSS4, using this guide? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenSound
If osstest works, then you probably installed OSS4 okay. Now, configure applications according to the wiki: http://www.opensound.com/wiki/index.php ... _for_OSSv4
