Hello there

As it seems OSS4 is the best audio API for Linux nowadays, I'm in the process of migrating my systems to this API. I really need OSS's low-latency capabilities.
I've compiled & installed the latest sources from the 4Front repositories, and the oss daemon is running in my system.

osstest is running fine, but no sound output. No errors reported. All testst are OK, except I get no sound. Software-wise, everything is OK.
If I configure any application to use OSS output, there is activity in the OSSXMIX panels. I can see the mixer bars move! So, YES, my OSS instalation is allright.

I KNOW all I need is the right ossxmix combination: I just can't find the right one for the MACBOOK & Mac Mini 2009 computers!

I also know many users claim to get sound in macbok using the line-in jack. Is it the only method? Should I connect my speakers to that output insted of the normal output jack? I've also tried that, but I just can't find a combination in osxmix... I tried both the BLUE and GREEN jack, changing to every single mixer available for each one (rear, front, side, pcm3, line.in...)

I've read the Gentoo how-to to oss and the 4Front Technnologies wiki, It seems HDA devices need some adjustments. That's ok, but I can't find the ossxmix configuration for those computers.

Can anyone help me here, plese? Any Linux & OSS users on Mac in this forum?? HOW did you make it work? I've followed the recommendations in the wiki, and I've tried every osxmix combination with an application running on OSS in the background. As I said, mixer activity can be seen in osxmix, but no actual sound...

Can you post the output of 'ossinfo -v3' and 'ossmix -a' (if that complains, just do 'ossmix' instead)?

I don't see any problem, but there's no sound output. Help me if you can. If I need to buy a license to get it working in my Mac Mini, please tell me. It's not about money when it's about being able to work in my favorite OS on X86.

I have an idea, but you'll have to build OSS manually (see here how to get the source and build it). After getting the source, edit kernel/drv/oss_hdaudio/hdaudio_codecids.h and add the line:
"{0x106b4100, "Intel iMac", VF_ALC88X_HACK, (char **) &alc883remap, 0, hdaudio_mac_realtek_GPIO_init}" just below the other "Intel iMac" line. This diff below shows the needed change. After rebuild OSS4 restart it and it might work (I recall that "make install" is buggy on gentoo since /usr/lib is a symlink there. Do "sudo make tarball", extract the tarball to root ('-C /'), and do "sudo soundoff" and "sudo soundon" to restart OSS).

Thanks a lot for your suggestions, Celsium.
I have built the sources and added the line you told me, it was built & installed without problems or errors, but there's no sound.
The iMAC line is only present in the mercuril repository sources, so I cloned that repository, added the line, and followed the rest of instructions.

It has the same symptoms: I can see activity in the mixer bars in ossxmix, but there's no sound output.

I've executed the commands you asked me for, to see if there's some change.

Well, seeing no one is interested in making OSS4 work in modern macs, why should I care?
I'll stick with ALSA. I've tried contacting the developers via e-mail, too, but no response.

I even proposed them buying a license to get technical support, but all I got was silent.
The Unix audio standard? Hah
