Perhaps Open Sound System is not installed or running.
Note that I randomly receive messages like the following:
Phonon: KDE's Multimedia Library
The audio playback device ALSA default output does not work. Falling back to .
Testing the OSS default output at the System Settings/Multimedia panel gives the following error:
Phonon: KDE's Multimedia Library
The audio playback device OSS default output does not work. Falling back to .
I'm using an Audigy 5 channel sound card (though have never been able to get any but the front speakers to actually work). Also, my mixer now only has channels for Pcm, 3D-depth, and 3D-center (where it used to have about a dozen channels).
Thanks,
Aaron
