usbaudio: Too many audio streaming interfaces

Postby epronk » Mon Feb 14, 2011 11:54 am

I installed OSS4 on Debian squeeze following this HOWTO

http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=52919

This is written to /var/log/messages if I plug in my Logitech USB Headset:
Feb 14 09:21:46 popgun kernel: [ 3512.197114] usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 9
Feb 14 09:21:46 popgun kernel: [ 3512.407151] usb 3-1: New USB device found, idVendor=046d, idProduct=0a01
Feb 14 09:21:46 popgun kernel: [ 3512.407160] usb 3-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0

Feb 14 09:21:46 popgun kernel: [ 3512.407171] usb 3-1: Manufacturer: Logitech
Feb 14 09:21:46 popgun kernel: [ 3512.407369] usb 3-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Feb 14 09:21:46 popgun kernel: [ 3512.410699] Reinsert of an audioctl device 1/0 - Logitec USB Headset
Feb 14 09:21:46 popgun kernel: [ 3512.425906] Reinsert of an audio streaming device 1/1 - Logitec USB Headset
Feb 14 09:21:46 popgun kernel: [ 3512.425921] usbaudio: Too many audio streaming interfaces
Feb 14 09:21:46 popgun kernel: [ 3512.426353] Reinsert of an audio streaming device 1/2 - Logitec USB Headset
Feb 14 09:21:46 popgun kernel: [ 3512.426366] usbaudio: Too many audio streaming interfaces

Any ideas what causes this?
It should expose a stereo output and a mono input.

Try editing kernel/drv/oss_usb/ossusb.h and change "#define MAX_PORTC 8" line to something like "#define MAX_PORTC 16". Then rebuild and reinstall OSS and see if this error appears (it's a constant which is used as a limit for some reason).

It happens the 5th time I plugged it in.
I'm using the same port every time.
Notice that it used address 2, then 3,4,5,6

From my subjective point of view, such experiments do not make much sense.
"овчинка выделки не стоит" (literally "the sheepskin ain't worth the dressing") [not worth powder and shot] · [the game's not worth the candle]
USB audio devices are problematic with OSS4: "output is experimental, input is not implemented" https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/OSS

You may get much better sound quality with Profitec Analog Headset "CD 92 MV" (9 EURO) [sehr guter Klang]
