HP Pavilion dv7 - no sound

Hello,

Up until recently I had a desktop, but it became obsolete so I got a laptop - HP Pavilion dv7-1053ez. I installed Linux Mint 10 (64bit), another Ubuntu flavor, as with the other computer. I also replaced pulseaudio/alsa with oss4, as with the other one. But this time, it seems, with no luck. I never had problems -- except MIDI and USB audio, both of which I rarely need -- but now, I just can't seem to get the audio working.

I went by the book: dpkg-reconfigure linux-sound-base > oss, then killed all pulseaudio, then purged pulseaudio[-*] and alsa[-base & -utils], reboot, dpkg -i oss (latest 4.2.2004), just like I did several times before, succsessfuly, and... nothing.
I tried fidling with /usr/lib/oss/conf/oss_hdaudio.conf, trying every allowed value, nothing, except I managed to get what jfraney got: three beeps in one channel, sometimes ony headphones/speakers , sometimes both.
I reinstalled (clean), I searched the forums for some similar problems, the largest thread seemed to be about Intel 82801i chipset, but nothing happened. I got the source from mercurial (clean), modified the config so I can get "Production" option (who knows, maybe...?), but to no use. And, with every try, I spent some time to open ossxmix and slowly making almost every combination of settings there, but all I got were the three lousy beeps and lots of errors, both in console and in dmesg.

I'm out of luck and would really like to use oss4 instead of the CPU-hungry pulseaudio. If anyone can help, please do; I'll post here the results of ossinfo, ossmix and lspci -vv:
