I have installed the oss-solaris-v4.0-1009 package on my Think . After installation, I get a long beep. Despite the long beep, I can still hear music when I run osstest. After rebooting

I get an infinite long beep, but I can still hear music when I run osstest. After reboot, the long beep is gone, but the sound from the microphone comes through the speakers. I can also hear music when I ran osstest. I then remove the symbolic links to pcmin1 and pcmin0. After reboot, I no longer have the microphone sound playing through the speakers. Osstest still play sound. I just don't get sound from Rhythmbox, Realplayer, nor Firefox when watching youtube video.

I forgot, another problem is that changes I made using ossxmix doesn't stay. Gnome volume control has no effect on the volume. I can't even use gnome volume control to mute sound. The sound driver is seen by Gnome mixer as Unknown sun audio device.

Update:

I can hear sound from Firefox playing youtube now.

But now osstest said it can't open the device. Just glad I got sound.

I note that vmix is not listed in your Device Objects section of ossinfo's printout.

Without vmix an audio channel can only accept one input hence osstest finds device busy because firefox is using it.

Is this a device driver issue?

If vmix has been built you should be able to load it. I am not very familiar with Solaris so I don't know if it is, "modprobe vmix" to check it or whether Solaris uses a different command.

What does ossdetect -v show?
