No soundon and soundoff commands in oss-solaris-v4.0-1014...

Postby elisej » Sun Mar 16, 2008 3:13 pm

I have installed oss-solaris-v4.0-1014-i386 on Solaris 10 update 4 8/07.
There are no soundon and soundoff commands.
What is a problem?

They should be in /usr/sbin/
Perhaps it is not in your path.

There is no soundoff and soundon anymore in Solaris (this is what was required by Solaris Architecture Committee).

Soundon and soundoff didn't do much, anyway, in Solaris. At least it had no effect here some builds ago.

So if soundon & soundoff are no longer required the man pages for these commands should also be removed from the package.

If OSS on Solaris can function without soundon/off is there any requirement to retain them for other architectures?
Any residual requirement being incorporated into the initialization scripts.

There is no demand loading of modules when device files are accessed on Linux or BSD or AIX etc.
