Terratec DMX 6Fire USB

Postby raczac » Tue Mar 16, 2010 6:15 pm

Hi,
i've connected a Terratec DMX 6Fire USB on a Solaris 10 x86 box, unfortunately i'm not able to get it running. The OS seems to recognize the USB device, OSS doesn't find the device.

According to the list of supported devices for Solaris/x86 the DMX 6Fire should work. I installed the package as stated in the Installation Manual (pkgadd -d oss-solaris-v4.2-2002-i386.pkg) and rebooted the machine as recommended.

It seems like the driver for this device cannot be found, here the dmesg-output:

It's a USB device, so oss_usb should be the driver... <s>Try running "sudo ossdetect -v" and see if that recognizes the card</s> [Edit: Sorry, that works differently under Solaris]. If I'm reading this right, oss_usb should be automatically loaded under Solaris. IIRC, That OS tends to unload unused drivers though.. Can you check if it's loaded somehow?

Hi,
thanks for your quick reply.

It is possible to load the oss_usb driver manually but the device is still not detected:

bash-3.00# ossinfo
Version info: OSS 4.2 (b 2002/200911060822) (0x00040100)
Platform: SunOS/i86pc 5.10 Generic_141445-09 (dfi)

Number of audio engines: 0
Number of MIDI devices: 0
Number of mixer devices: 0

Device objects
0: osscore0 OSS common devices
1: oss_sadasupport SADA compatibility layer
2: oss_usb0 USB audio/MIDI device

MIDI devices (/dev/midi*)

Mixer devices

Audio devices

Nodes
/dev/mixer -> ../devices/pseudo/osscore@0:mixer
/dev/sndstat -> ../devices/pseudo/osscore@0:sndstat

After executing ossdetect -v the oss_usb driver is removed again:

bash-3.00# ossdetect -v
rem_drv osscore
rem_drv oss_sadasupport
rem_drv oss_usb
unloaded osscommon
add_drv -m '* 0666 root sys' osscore
add_drv -m '* 0666 root sys' oss_sadasupport

-----

bash-3.00# ossinfo
Version info: OSS 4.2 (b 2002/200911060822) (0x00040100)
Platform: SunOS/i86pc 5.10 Generic_141445-09 (dfi)

Number of audio engines: 0
Number of MIDI devices: 0
Number of mixer devices: 0

Nodes
/dev/mixer -> ../devices/pseudo/osscore@0:mixer
/dev/sndstat -> ../devices/pseudo/osscore@0:sndstat

Thanks,

OSS Support told me that only the PCI version of this device is supported by OSS.

Thanks for your help,
