help newbie:no sound @ fulltest and i have some errors

hello,
i have installed oss pci only version on my hp note book compaq nx6110 model running solaris 9,but during the test i did'nt hear any sound.The response from a quick test was:" All test completed sucessfully" while the response from full test was:" one or more errors was detected during the test.".At the outset of installation ie "./oss-install"the terminal response was "sh:soundoff:not found" please can anyone help me out. i have attached 2 copies of my soundlog(a recent one and an earlier one),my /var/adm/messages, prtconf -pv,prtconf -vD,and the result of my osstest.Also i would like to know if i could set oss to start at boot up and how do i go about it and which media player can i possibly get to play most of the media types(audio and video) that i play on windows like .avi etc(java media player seems rather useless in this regard) and which site can i get it.please i am still a bit of a newbie so who ever intends to help me should keep it simple.Also /dev/audio is not a symbolic link to /dev/audio0 but rather /dev/dsp(what can i do about this so that sun compatible applications using devaudio api can work on my system),however /dev/audio0 is a symbolic link to /dev/audioctl100.thanks in advance to all you bright folks

Did you have some other drivers installed prior to installing OSS?
If so please remove them and then reboot the system and finally run soundon and run osstest.

This laptop is known to work fine - so you need to ensure no other drivers is there which could conflict with OSS.

i still get the same error even after i reinstalled my solaris9 since in could not find the driver that could be interfering with oss.so what do you think could be the problem since i had reinstalled my OS just bcos of oss and before installing my nic driver or indeed and other driver i still get the same error.Also when you said this laptop is known to work ie hp notebook compaq nx6110 model, is it on solaris9 or solaris 10?.please mr dev i be grateful for you response.

At this time the Intel HDA driver is in beta and has problems with Intel 945 chipset machines. We are working on the solution.
