Problem on CA0106-DAT Audigy LS (FreeBSD6.1)

Postby chung » Sun May 28, 2006 4:02 am

Hi all,
I have CA0106-DAT Audigy LS card, and i have tried to use OSS 3.99.4a. This my card spec:

none1@pci10:0:0: class=0x040100 card=0x100a1102 chip=0x00071102 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00
vendor = 'Creative Labs'
device = 'CA0106-DAT Audigy LS'
class = multimedia
subclass = audio

Installing Oss seem very good and my card is called Audigy LS
less etc/devices.cfg
# Use soundconf to edit this file.
/SECUREAUDIO OFF
/IRQEXCLUDE 3 4
/DMAEXCLUDE 2
-PCI00071102 #Sound Blaster Audigy LS
AUDIGYLS ON

As the result, I can hear the sound, and the test program run very good BUT, I can only hear noise sound, and i tried very much but the noise sound is only heared.
What is this problem? Can I fix it? Please help me.
Thank very much

What apps are you running?. We have tested XMMS, VLC, Ogle Mpg123, Timidity on this driver and it works just fine. If you are having problems with KDE or Gnome, please read the README.KDE-GNOME file in /usr/lib/oss/docs/ to setup KDE or Gnome sound servers for such devices.

Yes, I have tested on Mplayer, Sox and xmms. But it seem don't work on my machine. And I don't use KDE or GNOME, my X system is Xorg+XFce4.
I can give you all information if you want to debug.
Thank very much.

I have the same problem with the same sound card. I have noticed that if I boot into Windows first and restart (soft-restart, not turn-off/turn-on) the sound works just fine.

I have monkeyed with the acpi settings and even updated the BIOS but all in vain.

Exact same symptoms here, running Gentoo linux though. I didn't see anybody reporting this problem in Linux forum so decided to post here.

Tried OSS 3.99.4a and OSS 3.99.4b, with and w/o REGPARM flag, with and w/o ACPI, disabled all other AV hardware modules - still hearing only loud noise after soundon :cry:

I also tried soft reboot from Windoze, and ... a micarle! Sound works just great! (thanks batman for the tip). There must be something that windoze does to initialize the card that OSS does not. Would be really great if one of the OSS devs looked into it. It's probably a great piece of software...when it works :wink:

Same issue even without X11

Postby kupfer » Fri Jul 14, 2006 6:19 pm

I have the same noise issue even without running X11. The /lib/oss/bin/osstest gives me nothing but very loud noise. I am using the Sound Blaster Audigy LS card on a Lenovo ThinkCenter, running FreeBSD 6.1. ad the newest oss driver available (3.99.4b). I have cvsuped the machine to the newest 6.1 release (6.1-RELEASE-p3), same thing.

pciconf -lv for audio card:

vendor = 'Creative Labs'
device = 'CA0106-DAT Audigy LS'
class = multimedia
subclass = audio
