The nforce3 windows driver can transform the line mixer from my sk8n board (ich chipset) into a rear speaker mixer to setup a 4 speaker surround system that basicly translates into
transforming the line mixer into a dubplicated front speaker mixer when playing wave files. Is the OSS driver capeble of doing such tings ?

Yes, you can run ossxmix and depending on the AC97 chip you have
(type cat /dev/sndstat and look at the mixer) - you will see speaker mode
and you can then switch to front+rear

ps what does the xmms-surround plugin do ? does it just uses the spdif playing stereo or does it do something els too ?
