envy24ht - no mic, no input

Postby kayman » Sat Sep 19, 2009 12:58 pm

Hi! I have Terratec Aureon Space sound card. Everything works great only I cannot make microphone (and any other analog input working (Digital input works)).
I tried
Code: Select all
ossrecord - | ossplay -

Code: Select all
cat /dev/oss/oss_envy24ht0/pcmin0 > /dev/oss/oss_envy24ht0/pcm0

Code: Select all
cat /dev/oss/oss_envy24ht0/pcmin0 > /dev/null

I hear nothing, nothing change in ossxmix peaks. I have put everything to maximum volume setting.

ossrecord record only silence.

I tried v4.1 and now I tried oss from mercurial today. Still the same..

So recording is only silence. I do not hear me when I am talking to microphone - I tried to set up loopback device for this - no help.

When I run audacity I get this message about 20 times:
Expression 'tempDevHandle = open( deviceInfo->name, flags )' failed in 'src/hostapi/oss/pa_unix_oss.c', line: 687

I set /dev/dsp as playback and /dev/dsp5 as Recording in audacity. Clicking on Rec button get me Error message:
Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.
Changing recording to /dev/dsp or different sample rate do no help too.

Any suggestions? :)

Don't panic!

read that thread

hint:

ossmix

you have everything there.
see my explanations, in that thread.
If nothing help, I may try to read your data (ossmix, etc.)
Or you should wait, until cesium reveals a magic solution.

this might be your mic:

ac97.mic [<leftvol>:<rightvol>] (currently 15:15)

and it is very low.
You can make it up with a command line:

ossmix ac97.mic [something]

see:

man ossmix

And where is the switch to this mic?

I read it but I have found nothing usefull :(

ac97.mic is at 17, maximum is 31 and it doesn't matter how much it is set - no sound.
There is no switch for choosing which ac97 input will be used (like in windows or alsa).
that's probably it, maybe it's set to nothing. But how can I set it?

I also tried ON/OFF to ac97.mic:
Code: Select all
[kayman@melon ~]$ ossmix ac97.mic 31
Value of mixer control ac97.mic set to 31.0:31.0
[kayman@melon ~]$ ossmix ac97.mic ON
Value of mixer control ac97.mic set to 1.0:0.0
[kayman@melon ~]$ ossmix ac97.mic OFF
Value of mixer control ac97.mic set to 0.0:0.0
[kayman@melon ~]$ ossmix ac97.mic
Value of mixer control ac97.mic is currently set to 0:0

on my old box I have 3 switches for one mic (in ossmix)

This will record:

mic <monovol> (currently 17)
mic.rec ON|OFF (currently ON)
igain [<leftvol>:<rightvol>] (currently 3:3)

This will record nothing:

mic <monovol> (currently 17)
mic.rec ON|OFF (currently ON)
igain [<leftvol>:<rightvol>] (currently 0:0)

Perhaps, you have a kind of hidden "igain" too

is there someone with that terratec card (or any other envy24ht chip with (I think) SigmaTel STAC9744T as AC97 chip) and have mic and analog input working?

Can you post to oss-devel mailing list? Perhaps the devs would know better...
