no gui on oss linux 4

Postby capo » Fri Jun 18, 2010 12:11 pm

Hi All
I have installed oss in ubuntu 9.10 karmic

My problem is that I cannot access the control panel GUI with ossmix (also tried ossxmix)

I generated a custom application launcher with ossmix as the command and i get no response.

From the terminal I get a response attached, also the oss info is attached

Some assistance would be greatly appreciated

" control panel "? I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean KMix/Gnome mixer? What happens when you run "ossxmix"?

It may depend on how oss4 was installed.
You may try to remove oss4 (with purge) and make new installation
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenSound

ossxmix may not work without gtk2

sudo apt-get install -y binutils libgtk2.0-0 sed gcc libc6

Hi
Thanks for your reply

The document you gave url for is the document I followed for installation.

sudo apt-get install -y binutils libgtk2.0-0 sed gcc libc6 reported all exist and current

Tried uninstall using purge and then reinstalling, got following messege on completion
of install, if it helps

Detected Intel High Definition Audio (PCH)
USB support available in the system, adding USB driver
Detected Generic USB audio/MIDI device (BETA)
-----------------------------

Forcing re-detection of installed sound cards
Starting Open Sound System

************************************************************
* NOTE! You are using trial version of Open Sound System *
************************************************************

Processing triggers for man-db ...
Processing triggers for menu ...
graham@graham-laptop:~$

The reinstall gives the same results as previously, There is a flash to screen on operating thre launcher button, but thats all.

If oss4 is correctly installed on Ubuntu 9.10, you should not have such problems with ossxmix.
You may have problems with sound, but not with ossxmix.
Your problem is unique, it could be caused by a mistake during the installation.

EDIT: It seems to be a bug in the deb package:

Yes, it's a bug in the deb package. Try this or this instead.

You may simply download the proper ossxmix,
rename it to ossxmix2,
make it executable,
and run it as is.

If it works, you may copy it to /usr/bin/
