OSS v4.2 not loading (Intel Corp. 5 Series / HD audio)

Postby lenain » Tue Jun 29, 2010 7:16 pm

Hi,

I have some problems running OSS v4.2 : each time i run soundon i get system freeze.
I'm running Debian Squeeze with kernel 2.6.32-3-amd64 and previously used ALSA.

I have the following hardware :
Code: Select all
# lspci|grep Audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 05)
01:00.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc HD48x0 audio

Here is my /var/log/soundon.log :
Code: Select all
Open Sound System starting Tue Jun 29 20:18:31 CEST 2010
OSS version:  4.2 (b 2003/201006291816)
Kernel version:  2.6.32-3-amd64
Kernel vermagic:  2.6.32-3-amd64 SMP mod_unload modversions
OSS    vermagic:  2.6.32-3-amd64 SMP mod_unload modversions

*** Loading OSS kernel modules ***

My ossdetect -vvv...

Just modprobing oss_hdaudio is causing immediate and total system freeze.

I hoped that this thread could've helped me, but I hg cloned the last rev (905)... built it... runned make install and at the soundon, everything freeze.

I don't have much information in my dmesg as far as OSS is concerned.

Can someone help me please?
Thanks in advance.

Please try building OSS4 from source since I think the latest mercurial has a fix for this bug.

As I've said, I built it againt rev 905 earlier.
Just tried 907, still have the same issue...

Maybe this could help?

Thanks for your interest :)

Sorry, I missed that. Can you paste output of 'lspci -vnn'? Also, you can try adding "detect_trace=1" line in /usr/lib/oss/conf/osscore.conf, and see if there's anything relevant in /var/log/messages after a crash.

Here is my lspci -vnn and I see this when I'm trying soundon with detect_trace=1 activated :

Code: Select all
[  31.917904] oss_hdaudio 0000:00:1b.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 22 (level, low) -> IRQ 22
[  31.917969] oss_hdaudio_attach entered
