Xonar DS - No sound

Postby musv » Thu Jul 29, 2010 10:06 pm

Hi there,

Today I got my new sound card. It's a Xonar DS. I've read in the forum, that it's supported by OSS4.

Config:
- System: Gentoo
- Kernel: 2.6.34
- Soundsystem is only analog, no digital input

Problem:
I can't hear any sound. Osstest writes:
Code: Select all
osstest
Sound subsystem and version: OSS 4.2 (b 2003/201007292133) (0x00040100)

When I play an mp3 with mplayer I can see the amplitude moving in ossmixer, but I can't hear anything.

I played with the mixer settings, but nothing changes. Before I rebuilt it, I deleted the kernel modules and the /usr/lib/oss folder. Could it be a mixer problem? /dev/mixer0 and /dev/mixer don't point to the same device.
Code: Select all

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     26 30. Jul 00:01 /dev/mixer0 -> /dev/oss/oss_cmi878x0/mix0

Any ideas?

Edit:
When I enable "speaker spread" in ossmixer I can hear a noise, when I'm playing an mp3 with mplayer.

Do you have the same Xonar DS?

It's definitely possible to add it, but will take a bit of work: The main impediment to adding Xonar cards support is adding DAC support to oss_cmi878x. The DS uses Wolfson 8776/8766 DACs, and the driver will have to be taught how to handle these.

After some Google Research I guess there are no other chips than AV66. Yes I would say I have the same card.

Ok, it means I bought one of the few cards that isn't supported by OSS :(

What do you think which time do we have to expect until a support?

Hi, hello.

Are there any news about the support of this card? I was searching for something like a Changelog in the devel-version, but I didn't find anything.

Xonar DX and D2X are supported. I am not sure about Xonar DS.

Today I tried the newest oss-devel from mercurial. The module oss_cmi878x loads fine, but there's still no sound. :(
