OSS 3.992b MPU-401 probing fault

Postby fred » Sat Feb 12, 2005 3:19 am

I'm the person who posted "no digital audio, only midi" further down.

MediaTrix AudioTrix 3D-XG [ISA PNP]

I just installed oss3992b on FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE-p5 with an SMP kernel. I still do not get digital audio and now I get the following message:
oss: Probing the hardware for MPU-401 (UART) failed.
stray irq10
stray irq10
oss: Probing the hardware for MPU-401 (UART) failed.

--------------------
Ossxmix runs fine [no sound, though], but wavetable MIDI is no longer available (should be device 2).

Hi,

Run soundconf, select Manual config and change the MIDI IRQ from 5 to 9 and change the AUdio port's irq from 10 to 5. Save changes and see if that works.

OSS 3.992b MPU-401 probing fault

Postby fred » Sat Feb 12, 2005 11:44 pm

Hello,

Thank you much for looking at this situation.

I tried your recommendation and got the same result. I also tried using IRQ10 for MIDI and IRQ 5 for digital audio (reverse of normal).

I reserve IRQ 5 and 10 for "legacy ISA devices" using the motherboard BIOS. This is the setting I have used successfully for years. I need to reserve the IRQ settings for this soundcard, otherwise the soundcard will not initialize in any operating system. When I reserve what it needs, it works just fine. IRQ 9 is currently used by the ATI XPERT98 videocard.

Here are the new log files (booted with setting for IRQ 9 and 5). I confirmed these settings again just now, even though the log indicates IRQ 5 and 10. The I/O port for digital audio is actually set for e80 which differs from the following log. I/O ports in my settings are 388, 300, 370, e80, and I confirmed this as I write (after the fresh boot using these settings).

Thank you for your time and assistance.

[update for]: OSS 3.992b MPU-401 probing fault

Postby fred » Fri Apr 15, 2005 4:02 am

Just an update.

I have updated to OSS 3.99.2c and FreeBSD 5.4-RC2.

I submitted a FreeBSD problem since an ISA SCSI card and the parallel port also don't work.

http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=77477

Thanks
