Microphone don't work

My headset microphone is not working.
Mix input mode I'm hearing the output sound.

I'm showing dmesg OSS messages:

Try setting "hdaudio_noskip=7" in /usr/lib/oss/conf/oss_hdaudio.conf, restart OSS ("sudo soundoff" and "sudo soundon") and see if there's anything new in the ossmix mixer.

This did not helped me to fix mic with ICH6 and ICH7. The immutable bit seems to be more effective, but it may depend on a particular soundcard

ICH6 (with Arch Linux) was fixed with the immutable bit.
The most exotic problem was with ICH7 and Ubuntu 8.04 on Dell notebook:
1. If you blacklist ALSA, reboot, and install OSS4, mic does not work.
2. To make mic working, you have to load ALSA and install OSS4 over ALSA.
3. However, mic does not work after the first reboot.
4. If you apply the immutable bit, mic works after the first reboot, but it does not work after the second reboot.
5. When mic fails to work with OSS4 (after the second reboot), you may notice that a certain ALSA driver is loaded ("lsmod | grep snd" → snd_page_alloc).
6. I tried everything with with ICH7 and Ubuntu 8.04 (e.g. blacklisting ALSA after the installation of OSS4), but nothing helps.
7. Mic works perfectly with OSS4 on the same notebook with Arch LiveCD, the quality of recording is very good with OSS4 (and with ALSA too), but with Ubuntu 8.04, the quality of recording is very bad with OSS4 and ALSA on the same notebook.

It might be reasonable to test how OSS4 works with you soundcard on ArchLive CD. It has already OSS4 installed (together with ALSA).
Since ALSA is loaded by default, you have to unload it, then run "sudo soundon".

It might depend on how Slackware was installed and configured.
You told that you have Linux/i686 2.6.33.4-smp.
On that Arch LiveCD, you have, perhaps, something better:
1. Updated kernel 2.6.35.3.
2. Everything is up2date as of 4:00PM EST on 20100825.
3. OSS4 seems to be installed with a special kernel patch

In short:
1. If a particular soundcard works with OSS4 on Arch LiveCD, it should be possible to make it work with Slackware, Gentoo, Ubuntu or else.
2. If a particular soundcard does work with OSS4 on Arch LiveCD, it might be problematic.

Could you please post here the output of "lspci -v"?

A similar card is on that Dell notebook (Dell Latitude D820) with Ubuntu 8.04

OSS4 works well with Arch LiveCD, but not with Ubuntu 8.04.

Does it work with Arch LiveCD? If not, you may not need to try.
