/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lssl

Postby frabato56 » Fri Nov 11, 2011 4:57 am

Hi All,

Well I don't have much experience installing things from source code so if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it I'm trying to install libflashsupport on debain stable. Here is what I'm getting:

Code: Select all
a@Astudio:~$ cd /A/pkgsrc/usr/lib/oss/lib
a@Astudio:/A/pkgsrc/usr/lib/oss/lib$ cc -shared -O2 -Wall -Werror -lssl flashsupport.c -o libflashsupport.so
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lssl
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
a@Astudio:/A/pkgsrc/usr/lib/oss/lib$

google for -lssl doesn't help

Any suggestions?

Thanks

You will get this error if you don't have the development files for libssl installed.
Try:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install libssl-dev

Thanks for the reply,

It looks like that did the trick, at least I see no errors:

Code: Select all
a@Astudio:/A/pkgsrc/usr/lib/oss/lib$ cc -fPIC -shared -O2 -Wall -Werror -lssl flashsupport.c -o libflashsupport.so
a@Astudio:/A/pkgsrc/usr/lib/oss/lib$

but I still have one question. Do I need to put libflashsupport.so somewhere? I tried putting it in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins but I still get no sound on the soundcloud website.

Thanks

It needs to be in your library path. Suggest /usr/lib/libflashsupport.so
Also check file permissions, readable and executable for all users.
