problems with ac'97

Postby zare » Wed Dec 21, 2005 2:11 am

hello. i have an ac'97 built in sound card on intel i845 chipset mainboard. oss installs ok (on freebsd5.4, latest oss version), autodetects the sound card (as Intel ICH), all tests pass ok, but there is no sound, and every application that plays sound plays faster (4 minute mp3 is done in ~ 15 secs, without any sound output or error message). video players play video faster than normal too, if video has some audio stream to be played. videos without audio streams play ok with normal rate.

cat /dev/sndstat goes ok, says Intel ICH AC97. audio devices 0 and 1 are Intel ICH2(2445).

but i think that main problem is that my sound chip's manufacturer is Avance Logic. Windows 2000 shows same problem as above when i install Intel's AC97 driver. exactly same problem. but with Avance's driver, everything is ok. i have couple of those driver versions, ones indentify the card as Avance Logic AC97, other as Intel 82801BA/BAM Sound Controller.

thx in advance for your replies.

Type cat /dev/sndstat and look at the AC97 Mixer device - it should say Avance Logic or RealTek.
