i downloaded the driver again and i really think its not me this time ?

It always tells me
AC97: Codec/mixer chip doesn't seem to be alive.

But it works fine in windows and it always worked fine with the old driver ?

I've just tested my nForce2 motherboard with a ALC650 and FreeBSD 5.3 and I have it working. The reason for AC97 not being active is perhaps due to Power management or ACPI (or check your BIOS if you'eve enabled any PM support - disable it in the BIOS). Alternatively boot the machine with ACPI support and see if that works.

I've got no other good ideas. If AC97 probe returns saying AC97 not alive, then there's something wrong with AC97 codec chip.

Do you remember what the old version of OSS detected for the AC97?
(do you have old soundon.logs?). Perhaps can you try using the FreeBSD kernel driver to see what it detects? It's likely that some things were changed in the Ac97 settings for specific AC97 devices and that could be the reason that the device is powered down.

Bingo....even FreeBSD's ICH drivers don't work. I've actually just
finished testing Solaris on a Nforce3 motherboard (some Asus k8n bla-bla)

and it works in Solaris and the same driver is compiled for freebsd so it should work as well.

Disable APM/ACPI in the bios and/or if your BIOS has something like AC97 modem - disable that (or enable it if it's disabled) and see if that works.

i have been testing and testing and testing and this is what made the sound work BUT there is a BUT

BIOS
-------
AUDIO [ENABLED]
IOAPIC [ENABLED]
ACPI 2.0 [YES]
ACPI-APIC [DISABLED]
BIOS-AML-ACPI-TABLE [DISABLED]

Now when i did that it made the mixer work but still output errors when doing osstest
So after banging my head on my desk saying why every time my head hit the table. I remembert the only thing i ever did was adding this

FX-53R kldstat
Id Refs Address Size Name
1 9 0xffffffff80100000 5b49f0 kernel
2 1 0xffffffffa75ff000 add4 if_nv.ko <--------------
3 1 0xffffffffa7856000 1cd blank_saver.ko
4 1 0xffffffffa7924000 227d snd_ich.ko
5 1 0xffffffffa7927000 12e1a sound.ko

As soon as i removed the nvidia network driver kaboom sounds works again.

Does dev know how to fix this and make oss and net driver work togheter ?

This is not an OSS issue but something with the network driver - The fact that both OSS and the FreeBSD drivers work by disabling the if_nv driver means that the if_nv driver is accessing some power management stuff that is incorrectly programmed and takes down all devices.

Disable ACPI 2.0 and see what happens.
