Two soundcards -- Audigy produces no sound

I have a "Creative SoundBlaster 16 PCI", a "Creative Blaster Audigy SE", both of which probe (differently from the model on the box), and a "SoundBlaster 24 Live! 24-bit External" which I did NOT have plugged into USB during install, and have in the box, now, because from what I read, it is not yet supported. And a Pinnacle Brooktree-based PCTV/FM card for which OSS probed and declared unsupported, for the Audio streaming section ( @4:2:1 ).

I load the BKTR driver after OSS, post boot, with FreeBSD 5.4 It is connected (perhaps wrongly) to what FreeBSD "mixer" calls line1, and ossmix calls aux1 -- but works fine.

I have (front) analog powered speakers plugged into the Audigy (confirmed to work with other devices and powered up), and a 2nd set plugged into the SB/16. I get expected (and unexpected until I read the docs on the "Virtual") sound out the SB/16, and NONE out the Audigy.

I switched the SB/16 and Audigy on install using the provided GUI configuration editor, because I wanted "dumb legacy" programs to use the SB/16, and smart-OSS/Audigy capable ones to use the Audigy. I didn't even know about the virtual (mixer2) softoss code during install.

Doing a full test during install, I got static-noise out SOME speakers (couldn't tell which, it went too fast) during some tests, instead of expected sounds.

I had been using (and still load and use, until all this new OSS works right) the internal speaker driver -- e.g. "Beeps" from Xorg apps:

So, if I swap the SB/16 which HAS a JS/MIDI port with the Audigy which has none, do I lose the (expected and quite wanted) MIDI capability? Presumably the slot order would swap IRQ16/IRQ17 above. And if I DID swap the cards, how do I go through the "install" or whatever to get OSS info straight.

If I try to use the DVD drive with EITHER the SB/16 via 2-wire (I hoped for internal digital path to the Audigy), do I get messed up handling due to IRQ latency THERE with 44KHz dual-or-more channel sound available?

Is there any hope for the other Audigy, SoundBlaster 24 Live! 24-bit External" on the EHCI (USB2.x)?

If I can get the above resolved, how do I switch the Virtual (#2) to point to the Audigy dsp3, and just leave the SB/16's dsp0 alone. The online documentation for the soft-soundcard says that dsp0 is the "usual default", but doesn't indicate how to override that default.

Comments, explanations, strong guesstimates, greatly appreciated.

Two soundcards -- Audigy produces no sound (Addl Info)

I moved soundon from rc.local to a /usr/local/etc/rc.d/000.oss.sh to insure networking and firewalling is sufficiently in place before soundon is executed.

nasd loads significantly later :)

Shouldn't I be able to load a different sound daemon on a second virtual DSP? Just wondering. :P
