OSS doesn't work under OpenSolaris snv 57

Postby Willits » Mon Feb 26, 2007 8:54 pm

Hi dev,

I have tried to install OSS under OpenSolaris snv 57, but I cannot get oss working.

This is what osstest return (I had reboot 2 times my system and reinstalled oss 3 times) :
bash-3.00# osstest
SNDCTL_SYSINFO failed: No such device or address
Cannot get system information. Perhaps you are not running OSS 4.x
but some slightly incompatible sound subsystem.

When I try to run ossctl, it return that :
bash-3.00# ossctl
/dev/mixer0: No such file or directory

If you can help me, I want to have my 5.1 speakers working.

Regards,

Willits

It just means OSS didn't detect your audio device.
If you run ossdetect, what devices does it show?

"ossdetect" return me that :

# ossdetect
add_drv -m '* 0666 root sys' osscore
add_drv -m '* 0666 root sys' -i '"pci8086,24c5"' ich
drvconfig: modctl failed to add major number binding.
Ce périphérique ou cette adresse n'existe pas
add_drv -m '* 0666 root sys' -i '"pci8086,24c5"' ich
Installing OSS (ich) failed

I translate the french part : "Ce périphérique ou cette adresse n'existe pas"
"This peripheral or this address doesn't exist"

I have got an Realtek ALC 650 soundcard. It work very fine under Windows, Linux and OSS 3.

And "/usr/X11/bin/scanpci" return me that :

pci bus 0x0000 cardnum 0x1f function 0x05: vendor 0x8086 device 0x24c5
Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller

Your error is:
drvconfig: modctl failed to add major number binding.

So it means that you have another driver at this address. Remove that other driver and proceed.
