sound ouput quality problem

Postby naaman_otmani » Sat Jun 30, 2007 4:27 pm

Hi,
I've installed SXDE latest version 5/07, everything went fine. After that I've decided to go for the OSS package, I've installed the latest version as well oss-solaris-v4.0-1003-i386.pkg every went fine but the sound quality seemes to be running at a very fast rate in all audio apps cases.

I have to mention that I own an Intel 845 motherboard and here is my ossinfo output

# ossinfo
Version info: OSS 4.0 (build 1003/200706130337) (0x00040002)
Platform: SunOS/i86pc 5.11 snv_64a

Number of audio devices: 1
Number of audio engines: 6
Number of MIDI devices: 0
Number of mixer devices: 1

Device objects
0: sadasupport0 SADA compatibility layer
1: ossusb0 USB audio/MIDI device
2: vmix0 OSS transparent virtual support
3: oss0 OSS core services
4: ich0 Intel ICH2 (2445)

MIDI devices (/dev/midi*)

Mixer devices (/dev/mixer*)
0: ICH AC97 Mixer (0x414c4730) (Mixer 0 of device object 4)

Audio devices
/dev/oss/ich0/pcm0 Intel ICH2 (2445) (device index 0)
#

I really need the sound quality to be fixed, because I've acquired a DVD of 65 hours of video training on Solaris.

Many thanks in advance for your help

Hi,

Run osstest -v and note the measured rate. Edit /usr/lib/oss/conf/ich.conf and set the intelpci_rate_tuning=280 or 330 (or calculate the rate using the formula) and then run ossdetect again and then run osstest

Note that you should do this logged in as root on a console - do not use xterm in JDS - the drivers will not unload and reload from JDS.
