Several OSS errors

Postby ceddy » Thu Jul 26, 2007 5:17 pm

My sound is working... however theres a few issues causing problems.

FYI: My computer has both onboard and a PCI sound card installed. The onboard doesnt work with OSS, the PCI I added because I knew it did.
I am running Solaris 10 x86

Uninstall all other audio drivers you may have downloaded from tools.de and reboot and then install OSS.

nothing from tools.de... not even sure ive even familiar with it

Ive only recently installed Solaris, other then OSS, wificonfig/ ath driver/inetmenu, and pkg-get its a fresh load.

With pkg-get I did get Mpayer and VLC, less there's some drivers as dependencies i dont think theres any tools.de files on my system.

And Im quite a novie, is there a way I can uninstall the AC97 + ICH(2415) manually?

reboot the system and then run ossinfo to see if the devices got installed properly. AudioPCI97 and Intel ICH are some of the most stable drivers we have in OSS - there shouldn't be any problems.

uninstall OSS by typing pkgrm oss. Now look at /etc/driver_aliases and see if there is a driver for the ICH device. If so type rem_drv <drvname> and reboot, Now install OSS again and see if that works.

hmph
well oss was uninstalled, errors were gone after reboot.

searched /etc/driver_aliases and wasnt able to identify any ich drivers (copy of file at bottom)

Is it perhaps OSS is trying to install drivers for my onboard sound (never worked) as well as my PCI sound card (works with OSS) ?? And is it possible to disable the detection of that device and let OSS toy with my PCI card only?

please see above, i just tried something and wanted to reply again...

i just reinstalled OSS after not finding the ICH drivers whilst OSS was removed...

appears to be ok. My osstest plays sound but appears i need to restart to unmute the sound.... So I think something is happening in the reboot process.

below is a copy of my osstest, ossinfo, and ossdetect before I reboot.

EDIT: indeed the first test (ICH) is my onboard sound. Which is only working before I reboot... after that it doesnt work.

Code: Select all
# osstest
Sound subsystem and version: OSS 4.0 (build 1004/200707062145) (0x00040002)
Platform: SunOS/i86pc 5.10 Generic_125101-10

*** Scanning sound adapter #-1 ***
/dev/oss/ich0/pcm0 (audio engine 0): Intel ICH (2415)
- Performing audio playback test...
  <left> OK <right> OK <stereo> OK <measured>

*** Scanning sound adapter #4 ***
/dev/oss/softoss0/pcm0 (audio engine 2): OSS Virtual Mixer v3.0 Playback
- Skipping virtual device (use -V to force test)

*** Scanning sound adapter #4 ***
/dev/oss/apci970/pcm0 (audio engine 6): Creative AudioPCI97 (ES1371) (rev 8)
- Performing audio playback test...
  <left> OK <right> OK <stereo> OK <measured>
/dev/oss/apci970/pcm1 (audio engine 7): Creative AudioPCI97 (ES1371) (playback only)
- Performing audio playback test...
  <left> OK <right> OK <stereo> OK <measured>

*** All tests completed OK ***
